Annually, traffic violations on Texas roads plays a significant factor. According to TxDOT.gov, in 2023, the top five general traffic violations (including Failed to Control Speed and Driver Inattention) were a factor in over 42% of the more than half-million total reportable crashes statewide, and the top three deadly factors alone were involved in over 82% of all traffic fatalities.
The Sinton Police Department recognizes that focused traffic enforcement is a vital strategy for ensuring public safety, as research consistently shows an inverse relationship between active enforcement and serious roadway incidents; in areas where enforcement efforts decrease, injuries and fatalities often rise. Given that impaired driving and speeding remain factors in approximately 31% and 27.8% of fatal crashes, respectively, the Sinton PD is committed to using a targeted, data-driven approach to focus officer time on these high-risk behaviors, a method proven to have a positive and measurable impact on reducing dangerous driving and saving lives; while officers also address minor vehicle violations to promote overall compliance, we strive to use these opportunities for education and correction rather than citation, but we also leverage all legal traffic stops as a proactive way to intercept and deter more serious criminal activity and help keep our community safe.
