Public Records Request from the Sinton Police Department

  1. SECTION ONE: REQUESTOR'S INFORMATION

    Please provide your contact information to ensure we can fulfill your request in a timely manner. Our standard practice is to respond to all requests electronically unless you specify otherwise. All digital media will be delivered electronically.

  5. * COST FOR RECORDS

    There is no charge for responsive records up to 40 pages. A fee of $0.10 per page will be applied for each additional page. 

    Body-worn camera videos are priced at a flat rate of $10 per video, in addition to $1 for every full minute of video length.

  6. ** BODY CAMERA VIDEO

    Release of body-worn camera video may require notarized consent from those recorded, excluding officers. The Police Department is not responsible for obtaining this consent (Texas Occupations Code § 1701.661(f)).

  7. *** ACCIDENT REPORTS

    We maintain a basic information report on all vehicle crashes, but we do not maintain a copy of the official crash report filed with the state. 

    All accident reports are managed by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and must be requested through their system

    You can find and request your report on the TxDOT C.R.I.S. web portal.

  8. Request for Body Camera Video

    This section is used in conjunction with the previous section to request a copy of a body camera video recording from the City of Sinton, police department. All requests for body camera footage are processed in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code, Chapter 552) and the specific provisions of the Texas Occupations Code, Section 1701.661.

    Please provide the following information to assist in locating the recording:

    • Date of Recording

    • Approximate Time of Recording

    • Location where the recording occurred

    • Name(s) of one or more persons who are the subject(s) of the recording: 

      • If you are not the subject of the recording, please explain your relationship to the subject(s).

    AUTHORIZATION AND CONFIDENTIALITY

    Under Texas Occupations Code § 1701.661(a)(2), a body camera recording is confidential and not subject to the Texas Public Information Act if:

    (a) The recording was made in a private place; or 

    (b) The recording involves an investigation of conduct that constitutes a misdemeanor punishable by fine only and does not result in an arrest.

    In these specific circumstances, the recording can only be released with the written authorization of all the persons who are the subject of the video footage. The requestor is responsible for providing this written authorization.

    The City will review your request and determine if the recording is subject to release under the law. Please be aware that some footage may be withheld or redacted to protect confidential information, ongoing investigations, or the privacy of individuals.

    If body camera footage is not being requested, please state N/A.

  10. SECTION THREE: REQUEST FOR NON-CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

    Checking this box allows us to expedite your request.

    Please be aware that documents from the City of Sinton Police Department may contain confidential information that we are legally unable to release.

    Under the Texas Public Information Act, we are required to ask the Texas Attorney General for a ruling before we can withhold information. The Attorney General’s Office has 45 days to respond to these requests.

    To avoid this delay, you can choose to receive only the information that we can legally release.
